Davis Tobacco Barn - DAVTB

This Tobacco barn is believed to have been built around 1940 on 20 acres of land owned by Lula Bryant.  The barn was heated by a brick,  wood burning furnace which extended approximately six feet into the barn.  The furnace, fired by long lengths of wood and small trees, provided the heat needed to cure the tobacco hanging inside the barn.  Wood would be added or removed from the furnace to maintain the proper curing temperature.  Using this method meant the furnace had to be attended constantly during the curing process.  

Lula's family maintained possession of the land (and barn) until 2011 when James R. Brantley purchased the land from Darfus Ray Fuller.  James began renovating the old family house and property.  As the barn began to fall into dis-repair, he allowed BarnBeautiful to access the property to reclaim the barn wood.  The barn was completely dismantled in April of 2016.
